According to Wikipedia wildlife photography is the act of taking photographs of wildlife. Wildlife photography can be classified as a form of nature photography, which involves the taking of outdoor pictures of various animals engaging in activities that has to do with fighting, eating, running etc. Activities involving wildlife photography are normally undertaken in the wild but game farms have also become known for such activities.
Photographing animals requires skill and patience
Photographing animals on the move is generally accepted by many as a very hard task as compared to that of photographing still images. I am not saying that, it is very easy to photograph still images, but I think you will all agree with me that, capturing static images will be less difficult than that of capturing moving animals which requires a great deal of patience and skill.
Get some knowledge on phtographing skills
For anyone planning to take wildlife photography seriously, there are various things that need to be learned. For example one needs to be in possession of a rapid fire camera with a 1oomm to 300mm lens to get good shots of moving animals. One should also know that, if longer lenses are going to be used then more light will be needed as compared to wider lenses among others.
Know the species you will like to capture
It will also be essential to know the behaviour of the possible species that you might be dealing with, since this will give you an insight as to what to and what not to expect. Such knowledge can be obtained by reading books, talking to hunters about animal species you intend photographing, speaking to researchers of Universities who have worked on the animals you will like to capture among others.
Practice
After acquiring all the needed knowledge, the next step will be to put whatever you have learned to practice. I recommend practicing the skills you have gained at your own backyard for some time and take it to another level once you have mastered it. I believe that if something is going to be done it must be done well. So if wild life photography is going to be taken either as a hobby or a profession it must be done well and you will need some help to do this.
